Christian Community Church

On January 18, 2007 thirty-two people got together to talk about starting a new church in Mesquite. God had led us out of a wilderness together and gave us a united determination to establish a Bible-base church adhering to the Baptist Faith and Message. The name Community Christian Church was proposed. A second proposal suggested putting Christ first and calling it Christian Community Church. We had no idea where we would meet. Officers were elected and assignments were made. God began opening the doors.

On January 21, 2007 the Christian Community Church held the first services at the Falcon Ridge Hotel in Mesquite, Nevada.

The church was incorporated on February 2, 2007 with the Nevada Secretary of State. Subsequent filings established the church as an independent 501C3 corporation designated so by the Internal Revenue Service. Following this designation we were able to obtain Sales Tax Exempt licenses with the states of Utah and Nevada. Every care was taken to establish the church under the laws, rules and regulations of the State of Nevada and the Internal Revenue Service.

The church constitution was written by a committee appointed to do so. The By-Laws and Constitution were approved in the first business meeting after incorporation. Other committees were formed under the guidelines of the constitution. A nominating committee reviews positions and nominates qualified individuals pending election by the church body. A finance committee was established along with the education committee.

A building committee began searching for possible land or buildings to purchase. A pastor search committee was created to begin a search for a pastor.

Pastor Curtis Stackpole at the First Southern Baptist Church in Hurricane helped us with supply pastors, advice, council and direction. We know God was at work when Pastor Stackpole assisted us. Thank you Pastor Curt.

We’ve had a number of excellent supply pastors during these start-up months. We also have four men in our congregation with pastor credentials. We’ve been blessed with the right words at the right time during these last seven months. None of these men have arrived at our doorstep to deliver a sermon that someone else wrote. Each pastor has delivered a sermon from his heart—a sermon God placed on his heart when we needed it. More than once, a pastor changed his sermon at the last minute because he realized God had a different message for him to give us.

We’ve found great support and encouragement from sources in several states. Matt Gaston, DOM of the Desert Pines Baptist Association in Snowflake, Arizona has been a great help. We have formally applied to join the Desert Pines Association. Dan Boler with Market Place Ministries has been a constant guide in our organizational efforts. Randy Perkins, DOM of the Pioneer Drive Baptist Church in Abilene, Texas was with us on August 19. Randy shared visions for church missions with us.

Other supply pastors during the last seven months have been: Pat Fisk, Josh Amidon, David Taylor, Gary Bowser, Juan Santana Nathan Reichert, Curt Stackpole. From our own congregation we have heard from Bob Bryan, Jerry Kennedy and Clyde Sullivan.

Wayne Hitchcock has been the church moderator. Wayne has sat in most committee meetings and has presided over services and Bible studies. This page would overflow if we mentioned all the efforts Wayne has been involved in. Thank you Wayne.

Clyde and Bev Sullivan have been working with the Youth. They have a natural gift for teaching the youth when they come to Bible Study, Sunday School or Saturday's Fun time. In June the youth group traveled to Slidel, Louisiana to work with a local Vacation Bible School and youth camp. The youth were able to see how blessed we are as they traveled the cities and neighborhoods struck by Katrina. They've seen the scars left on young people from the displacement in their lives. They've been able to make a difference by ministering to those who were scarred by Katrina.

The women have been holding Thursday night Bible Studies led by Sue Brooks. They've completed several studies and have had women from several area churches attending. Sue has some excellent studies lined up for this Fall.

Sue has also been the Adult Sunday School Teacher. Sue has taken us beyond the standard quarterly Sunday School manual from Lifeway for some in-depth studies by renowned authors of Biblical Instruction. Every adult has benefited from this form of instruction. The next study will begin September 9.

This has been an exciting time for all of us to be a part of establishing a church and participating as it takes root and begins to grow. Every person in the church has had multiple jobs to perform.

The last seven months have been the beginning chapter in the Christian Community Church biography. In less than two weeks we’ll have a full time pastor and the next chapter will begin. God knows what that chapter will be. We’re excited to be a part of His work. We're sure there isn't a web site big enough to hold Chapter 2. Thank you God!
